About Apex Park

Covering approximately 42 acres and a County Wildlife Site, Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park offers visitors the chance to relax away from the bustle of Burnham and Highbridge.

A large car park extends from Marine Drive to within 30ft of the lake. Parking is free but the gates are locked at dusk and overnight stops by campers are not allowed. There are free toilets adjacent to the main entrance (disabled facilities are available) which are open during the day.

If you're feeling energetic, there is a gentle walk via the tree planting areas to the bank of the River Brue. Turning right the path/cycleway leads along the river to the southern end of Burnham sea front (by the sailing club). Cruisers are moored in the river during the summer months and, if the tide is right, it can be interesting to watch them head down the stream to join the River Parrett and then into the Bristol Channel.

If you feel less energetic the walk around the two large lakes is the answer and is suitable for wheelchair users. At a medium pace, this should take no more than 30 minutes. On the south east side of the park there is a children’s play area, outdoor gym and a skatepark.

Picnic tables are situated by the car park and play area, however should you require a more peaceful setting, why not picnic on the grass further into the park?  But remember, barbeques are not permitted and please place any litter in the bins provided.

The park is often in use by many clubs and groups with a wide variety of activities from radio controlled boats to fishing, BMX racing, skateboarding and the outdoor gym.

Somerset Council own and manage the park with the aim to benefit the whole community and encourage wildlife. In order to conserve the wildlife, it is necessary to manage the various habitats within the park. Where possible, conservation work is undertaken by volunteers from the local community. Remember for safety's sake, keep away from the water's edge and do not attempt to swim or enter the water.  Please keep dogs on leads whilst on the cycle path. Please observe the byelaws and take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints and kill nothing but time.

We hope you enjoy your visit to Apex Park.
